A decade after Nexas Quartet’s acclaimed album Current, New Currents continues the ensemble’s exploration of the expressive possibilities of the saxophone quartet through Australian Music.

Featuring music by some of Australia’s most distinctive composers, including Carl Vine, Gerard Brophy, Anne Cawrse, Natalie Williams and Tim Dargaville, New Currents explores music as a force in motion: currents of technology, identity, environment, communication and change.

From the emotional rupture and renewal of Natalie Williams’ Catharsis, to the jagged energy of Carl Vine’s Sawtooth; from Gerard Brophy’s exploration of language and communication in Mountains of Tongues, to Anne Cawrse’s  soaring Kyrie, these works inhabit contrasting sonic worlds united by a fascination with transformation.
